READ: 2 Timothy 2:15-21

“If a man therefore purge himself from these he shall be a vessel unto honour… prepared unto every good work.” – 2 Timothy 2:21

Every Christian is expected to accomplish certain works whilst on earth.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).

God has a good work for you to do. Make no mistake; the only reason you are still alive is for you to accomplish certain good works.

I remember once I was with a certain white man who was giving me a ride in his taxi. I asked him if he believed in God. He said he did not believe in God and he wondered why I believed in such things.

I affirmed that I did believe in God. Then he asked if I believed in things like Heaven and Hell and I told him I certainly did. He asked me if I believe that Heaven is a good place. I told him I definitely thought it was a place where we would prefer to be. He questioned, “Then why don’t all of you who believe in Heaven kill yourselves now and go there immediately since it is a better place?”

I reasoned to myself that he had asked a wise question. If Heaven is a better place, why don’t we all go there now?

Here is the answer. First, it is a crime to kill yourself. It is against the law and it is against God’s will. Second, God’s Word shows us why we must still stay on the earth—we are here to do good works.
