READ: Joshua 1:1-9
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. … – Joshua 1:8-9
There is no faith without meditation. There is no obedience without meditation on the instructions you have received. Faith grows or diminishes depending on how much you meditate on God’s word to you. You may be excited to hear a message from the Lord. You may even shout “Amen”! But unless you meditate on the Word, you will not develop the faith to obey it.
Obedience is faith and faith is obedience. Faith is a type of obedience that is not possible without meditating on the Word. Joshua’s only hope to prevent him from following the mistakes of his fathers was meditation. Notice the amazing faith blessings that come through meditation on the word of God.
1. Faith for strength and courage for war come from meditation. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua 1:8
2. Faith to be happy and joyful comes by “eating” the word of God (meditation).
Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16
3. Faith for ministry comes by “eating” the books (meditation) God has given us.
… And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. Revelation 10:9.
