READ: Exodus 30:1-9
… And THE SMOKE OF THE INCENSE, WHICH CAME WITH THE PRAYERS of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. – Revelation 8:3-4
The altar of incense was a master key to entering the presence of God. Obviously, the incense from the Holy Place would filter in from the Holy of Holies where the ultimate presence of God dwelt. Incense speaks of your prayers that bring the presence of God. LET MY PRAYER BE SET FORTH BEFORE THEE AS INCENSE; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Psalms 141:2
And another angel came and stood at the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And THE SMOKE OF THE INCENSE, WHICH CAME WITH THE PRAYERS of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand. Revelation 8:3-4
And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and GOLDEN VIALS FULL OF ODOURS, WHICH ARE THE PRAYERS OF SAINTS. Revelation 5:8
This is an important revelation. We have, in the scripture, glimpses of heaven. These glimpses of heaven have shown us that our prayers ascend as incense before God. God receives our prayers and offerings as incense that is filtering upwards. Incense creates an atmosphere that is both seen and smelt by the one who is in it. God both sees and smells your prayers and this draws you into the presence of God. All through the scripture, incense has been set forth as a type of prayer. Prayer definitely brings in
the presence of God.
