“And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” – Luke 11:1
Many lazy Christians do not want to spend much time in prayer. However, Jesus Christ had long times of prayer with His Father. And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. Luke 6:12
And straightway he constrained his disciples to get into the ship, and to go to the other side before unto Bethsaida, while he sent away the people. And when he had sent them away, he departed into a mountain to pray. And when even was come, the ship was in the midst of the sea, and he alone on the land… Mark 6:45-47
One day, one of my pastors saw me interacting with a group of students. I stood with them for hours after church, chatting and laughing. He was intrigued and asked me privately as we were going home, “What were you talking to the young students about?” He said, “I am amazed that you are able to talk to these students for so long. What do you tell them?”
Perhaps, that was the same kind of question that the disciples asked Jesus. “What do you talk to the Father about?” His long times of prayer struck His disciples and they could only ask, “What do you say when you pray?” They wanted to know why He spent so much time in prayer.
