READ: Acts 13:16-23
“…I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.” – Acts 13:22, NASB
Obeying the voice of God releases the blessings of long life, riches and honour.
The Scriptures show how David endeavoured to obey the Lord as much as he could. He was human and he failed in the matter of Uriah the Hittite. But he did all the will of God and received the blessings of the Lord. “Because David did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord, and turned not aside from any thing that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite” (1 Kings 15:5).
David ended up full of riches, full of honour! Unfortunately, this cannot be said about the end of everybody. Many of us end up disgraced, poverty-stricken and with shortened lives. Mercy! May God give us the grace to pursue obedience to His perfect will so that our end will be like the end of David – full of days, riches and honour.
“David son of Jesse was king over all Israel. He ruled over Israel forty years — seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem. He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king” (1 Chronicles 29:26-28, NIV).
“These are the last words of David: The oracle of David son of Jesse, the oracle of the man exalted by the Most High, the man anointed by the God of Jacob, Israel’s singer of songs: The Spirit of the Lord spoke through me; his word was on my tongue” (2 Samuel 23:1-2, NIV)
