READ: Acts 1:4-8
“How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” – Acts 10:38
Jesus told His disciples to wait for the power of the Holy Spirit. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
Indeed, the presence of the Holy Spirit is what you need to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I heard one pastor make an unfortunate comment. He said, “What is the use of the blood, the cross and the nails to the people that I am preaching to? They need business! They need empowerment! They need success! They need to be successful in the marketplace!”
It takes power to stay on the salvation trail. It takes power to preach about apparently abstract topics like the cross, Calvary and the blood of Jesus. Without the Holy Spirit’s power you will preach economics, business, politics and maybe, even physics.
People who are against the cross of Jesus Christ should be driven out of the church because they are destroying the foundations of what we believe. Without power, you will find the gospel abstract and irrelevant. When you have the power of the Holy Spirit you will be able to stay on course and speak confidently about Jesus Christ even though He lived over two thousand years ago.
“For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified … And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:2-5)
