READ: Proverbs 5:15-23
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:” – Romans 1:24
When something that is supposed to be done second is done first, many things go wrong.
At dinner with a pastor friend in another country, he gave an incredi- ble account of the number of funer- als that he was conducting in his city. He told us that the funerals were so many that no pastor had the time to attend all the funerals of the members. I listened in amazement. He went on and described how they no longer buried people in lying po- sitions because there was no longer space for that in the cemetery.
He described how they buried them vertically; standing up! I thought to myself, “In such a situation do you say ‘stand in peace’ or ‘rest in peace’?”
What was the cause of the unprecedented wave of deaths in this country? Why were so many people dying? The an- swer is simple: The second thing had come before the first thing. Sex had come before marriage, and with promiscuity, the scourge of the deadly HIV/AIDS virus, which was the cause of so many deaths.
When marriage comes before sex, these things ideally do not occur. In this country, unfortunately, sex was an experience occurring largely outside the context of marriage. Sex is rightly supposed to be experienced only after marriage.
