READ: Mark 1:21-27
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword…” – Hebrews 4:12
In Mark 1, a perfectly normal person began screaming in the temple while Jesus was preaching. When Jesus came on the scene, the demons within the madman were agitated. They cried out against the Lord.
The presence of God is the environment which evil spirits are not comfortable with. The presence of God will always stir up evil spirits. That is why perfectly normal people suddenly show strange manifestations when they are in church.
Let me tell you why the presence of God stirs up evil spirits. In the presence of God, the Word of God is preached and taught. As the Word of God comes forth, swords are thrown out in the realm of the spirit. No demon enjoys having swords thrown at him. This is why the man in the synagogue reacted to the preaching of Jesus. Jesus did not pray; He just preached. Jesus did not bind any demon; He just preached the Word of God. The Word of God is truly a sword in the spirit.
The Word of God is light and the light exposes the activities of demons (John 1:5). When the Word is preached, the light shines forth and demons are exposed. The more of the Word you have, the more the enemy is exposed. Satan can never operate effectively against you in the light. Darkness is essential for demonic activity.
When you understand that the presence of God drives away evil spirits, you will constantly cultivate the presence of God in your life.
