READ: Luke 1: 46-55
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.
Proverbs 11:2, NLT
Humility is the beginning of wisdom when you are relating with God. Pride is the end of the relationship with God.
Mary the mother of Jesus was chosen to do the greatest job a woman could ever ask for. She was to bear the Son of God. She was to carry the holy seed and present the Saviour to the world. Why was she blessed among women? It was because of her humility.
There is only one passage that records the words of the Holy Virgin Mary: Luke 1:46-55. In this passage, she uses words that give us a revelation of who5 she was. She says, You have regarded my low estate! You have lifted up someone who is of a low degree! These two descriptions, low degree and low estate, reveal the humility and lowliness of Mary. No wonder she was chosen.
Pride is like a virus, which has many presentations: weakness, fever, loss of smell, pain, depression, general malaise, severe life-threatening symptoms, headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and so on.
Pride is like that! A proud person may manifest by laughing at someone, talking about someone, criticizing someone. Pride may manifest itself in the topic you choose to preach about or write about. Plain confidence may even be a manifestation of pride. Over confidence may be a more obvious manifestation of pride. Quarrelling and contention are signs of pride: (Proverbs 13:10).
It is important to pray for the Spirit of humility so that you are enveloped in a cloak of humility. The end will come when pride takes over. Fight to be a humble person. The greatest gift you can have is the gift of humility, lowliness and meekness.
