“…Take heed, and beware of covetousness…” – Luke 12:15
Lust for anything apart from God’s Word is dangerous. It can ruin your life because you will sacrifice so many things to get what you want.
There are Christians who will sacrifice anything to have some material possession. This strong overpowering desire is what God calls lust. But lust is dangerous! It destroys. “…having escaped the CORRUPTION that is in the world through LUST” (2 Peter 1:4). Corruption has come into the world through lust. The strongest desire in a Christian’s life should be for the will of God to prevail.
Some Christians desperately want a husband, and therefore they will break all the rules, and sacrifice every moral principle in order to get one. Others desperately want to have a child. And they will go as far as having sex with other men if their husbands are sterile. There is nothing that is worth sacrificing your Christianity for. One day, the devil will dangle that thing in front of you, and you may just walk out on Christ to get it.
You will only live (or die) to regret it. If you see someone who has a very strong desire for material things, you are looking at a potential backslider.
“…and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful” (Mark 4:19).
