READ: Colossians 1:9-12
“…that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding,” -Colossians 1:9(NASB)
When do you need to know the will of God? You must find out the perfect will of God for all important areas of your life.
Be filled with the knowledge of His will concerning your calling. Will you function as a pastor, prophet, teacher, apostle or evangelist? Your calling must be according to the will of God. You cannot be a teacher just because you like teaching. You can only be a teacher by the will of God. You cannot sing just because you like singing. You must sing because it is God’s will for your life. You must do only what His will is.
When you start out in ministry, you may have a general kind of calling. But as you mature, your ministry becomes more specific. As you get older, it gets more and more dangerous to stray into areas of ministry God has not called you to. Apostle Paul constantly introduced himself as doing the type of ministry he was doing because of the will of God. “Paul, called as an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother” (1 Corinthians 1:1, NASB)
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia” (2 Corinthians 1:1).
“Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:1).
