And he said , Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country. – Luke 4:24
When Jesus preached in His hometown, they were filled with wrath. The word “wrath” in Greek is the word thumos. This means “incipient displeasure fermenting in the mind. It speaks of fierceness, indignation (as if breathing hard) and wrath”. The familiar people were angry at the sermon.
But when He preached in Galilee according to Luke 4:32, “They were astonished at his doctrine.” The word astonished is a Greek word ekplesso which means, “to be amazed, astonished and struck with terror”. Notice also that thumos took place in Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown. Ekplesso took place in a city of Galilee about two hundred kilometres from Jesus’ hometown of Nazareth.
Every man of God basically, is a “man”. No man that God ever chose had a perfect life. He has challenges just like everyone else. It is easy to pick on any aspect of his natural life to demystify and neutralize him. Discussing the man of God in a natural way is a sure sign that you have lost your sense of fascination and awe for him. This is the surest way to cancel out the effect of the anointing on your man of God.
By doing this, you are cutting yourself from receiving God’s miracle for your life. When Jesus went to His hometown, there was a long discussion as to who He really was. Jesus could do very few miracles because of the high concentration of familiarity and doubt in the city. Do not let familiarity cut you off your blessing.
