READ: Isaiah 6:1-7
“He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” – John 14:21
Loving God is a great achievement because God is holy and you know you are not. As we get closer to God, we sense unworthiness, wretchedness and corruption in ourselves. Anyone who has had an encounter with God will know how unworthy, wretched and sinful he is when he approaches God!
Relationships break down when one party always feels inferior. It is a very dangerous thing to have an inferiority complex. Saying “I love you” and many assurances do not work on people with an inferiority complex. To relate happily and love God properly, you must overcome the inferiority complex you have because of your sins. You must accept that everything in the past is washed away by the blood of Jesus.
Another obstacle to loving God is that you are always confessing sins that you know you will commit again. You keep going back to the same sins and it makes you wonder if God takes you seriously. Like Isaiah, you can only shout, “Woe is me, I am unclean, I am undone.”
Loving God is a great achievement because God’s love language is obedience. To love God is to flow in simple obedience towards Him. Can you imagine loving a woman who says to you, “If you love me, obey me?” Can you imagine a woman saying, “I do not want any love notes, flowers, cards or gifts! Just be obedient to me!” Most of us will find it difficult to love this woman. But that is exactly how God wants to be loved. God does not want your love walks, your flowers or your cards. God wants obedience as a sign of your love. God’s love language is obedience!
