READ: Acts 7:51-60
“Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.” – Psalm 51:11
Following the Holy Spirit is important so that you do not grieve Him. If the Holy Spirit tries to lead you and you shut Him out, He will be grieved.
“And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Ephesians 4:30).
Someone who is often quieted down at meetings becomes grieved. Someone who is often ignored becomes grieved and does not give of his best.
When you shut out the voice of the Holy Spirit, He is grieved and does not give you His input anymore. You may have the Holy Spirit but He will be grieving and inactive in your life. You must be led by the Spirit of God so that you do not grieve Him. You must also be led by the Spirit of God so that you do not quench Him.
“Do not quench (suppress or subdue) the [Holy] Spirit” (1 Thessalonians 5:19, Amplified Bible).
As you continue to ignore the Holy Spirit you will eventually put out His voice from your life. This is more serious than grieving Him. Grieving speaks of a pause in the Holy Spirit’s input but quenching speaks of putting a fire out. When a fire is quenched it is put out permanently.
The Holy Spirit’s input in your life can be permanently wiped out. Do not permanently silence the Holy Spirit in your life.
